control+D problem

hii..

i have install RHEL5 in my pc. my pc RHEL5 always start with runlevel
3. so i have pass a parameter VGA=800*600 in /etc/grub.conf file after
kernel line. now i am facing problem with control+D error....

after this i can't enter into single user mode to solve this.

so plz help me to solve this problem and start with runlevel 5..
